A Few Facts About Dental Veneers

Posted .

Have you ever heard of dental veneers? As you may know, these thin shells are bonded to your teeth to give you a healthy, attractive smile. In fact, veneers can be used to correct crooked teeth, whiten your smile, or close small gaps in your mouth. Dental veneers are stain resistant and durable—but there are still things you can consider doing to extend the life of your veneers.

You probably already know that the first thing you should do is brush twice a day for two minutes at time. You should also remember to floss every day. Furthermore, did you know that the type of toothpaste you use could make a difference? For example, choosing a non-abrasive toothpaste, such as a toothpaste used for sensitive teeth, can help protect your veneers.

It’s also important that you remember to not misuse your teeth. Please don’t bite down on ice, metal, your fingernails, or pens. Chewing on these items could chip your teeth or crack your veneers. If this happens, you’ll need to have your old veneers removed and have new veneers placed. Please remember to limit your intake of certain drinks, such as alcohol and soda as they can also harm your veneers. And finally, you will need to visit our dentist once every six months to make sure your veneers are in tip top condition.
